Even Adults Need Incentives!

Chase and I went to class one time about budgeting and taking care of your financials etc. In the class one of the teachers mentioned that she fully believed in incentives. For example, when they kept to their budget or even below their budgeted amount for a certain area (such as groceries) then they would use the extra for something special or save it for something special (so the amount would rollover to the next month so they would have a little extra in that area). She even went on to discuss how they use incentives to keep goals and such within their lives. So one of my "goals" every year is to get in shape and exercise. Well to be honest I am never good at it. So this year I am going to do better. So I made a little chart and if I exercise 3 x a week for so many weeks I can earn my incentive and every six weeks after that I continue to get a reward if I keep it up! I am so excited! Chase thought it was funny I chose my own rewards but hey it had to be something I would work for- right?!

The stickers are even cute smiley faces! (It is kind of nostalgic for me, it takes me back to my younger years when we had charts to make sure we were doing our chores and practicing piano...we will see how well they actually work!)

So true! Joni, I like how your rewards are things that most impulsive people would buy prior to beginning a work-out regime. That may be why so many people give up the fight to reach their fitness goals--they spend money on all the fancy stuff before they're actually in the habit of exercising regularly, falling victim to instant gratification for something that requires consistent, long-term, and ongoing effort. I'm trying to get in shape, too. I hadn't realized how much my muscles had atrophied in seemingly so short a time. The nice thing is, with just a little determination, it isn't too difficult to get back on track. I hope we both see great results from our efforts. Maybe I will make a chart for myself, too!
